Åland Islands
TV Aland has announced that Swedish singer and songwriter Darin will represent the country in LA. He is one of Sweden's best-selling artists, with seven number one music albums.
He achieved popularity in the Swedish Pop Idol, in 2004. Darin was the first place runner-up in the Swedish Idol 2004, acquiring a fanbase primarily of teenage girls. Darin lives in Vällingby outside of Stockholm. He is of Kurdish heritage, and he speaks Central Kurdish. He won the Kurd of the year award in 2005 presented by Swedish Minister for Public Health and Social Services Morgan Johansson. At the end of 2006, Darin released his 3rd album “Break the News”. It went straight to number 1 in the chart and went gold the first day. Following his success in Sweden, Darin signed a new deal with EMI Germany, Switzerland and Austria. His newest album “Tvillingen” includes “Ja Må Du Leva”, his entry.
Australia
Jessica Mauboy is an Australian R&B singer-songwriter and actress. In 2006, she was runner-up on the fourth season of Australian Idol. After this, she signed for Sony Music Entertainment. She has released three studio albums, one live album, three soundtrack albums, one extended play and 35 singles. She was a guest performer at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. She represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. She has also appeared in the movies Bran Nue Dae (2010) and The Sapphires (2012). She has also starred in the drama television series The Secret Daughter since 2016. Mauboy was born in Darwin, Northern Territory. Her mother is an Indigenous Australian and her father is from West Timor. Now she will represent Australia at the Olympic Song Contest 2018 with the track “Then I Met You”.
Bahamas
The talented singer/songwriter Wendi Lewis has produced many smash hits – both as an independent artist, and with “the foremost party band in the land,” Visage. Wendi and Visage Band were nominated in the 2016 Bahamian Icon Awards in the Music category for “One Song”. Now she will represent her home with “Down Home Party”.
Canada
Marie-Mai is a Canadian singer from Quebec. She was initially known as one of the finalists of the first season of the Quebec reality show Star Académie in 2003. Her debut album Inoxydable, produced by Fred St-Gelais, was released on 28 September 2004. Over 120,000 albums were sold in Quebec (platinum certification) alone while the album was released in France in 2006. During the closing ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, she performed Emmène-moi. She was a coach on the Quebec version of The Voice (La Voix) alongside Ariane Moffatt, Marc Dupré and Jean-Pierre Ferland. After more than 15 years of success, she changed her music style and is bringing her new single “Empire” to the stage. As announced by herself on the 14th of August 2012, the new album was to be called "Miroir" and the release date was set to be September 17. "Miroir" managed to sell 22,000 units during its first week. On October 17, 2012, only a month after the album was released, a press conference was held at the Olympia Theatre in Montreal to announce that the album was certified gold for selling 40,000 copies. In January 2014, Marie-Mai released "Jamais trop tard", a duet with Jonas, as the first single of her 5th album. The song reached #1 in the radio charts. In 2018 she released “Empire”, the song chosen to represent Canada at the global stage of OSC.
France
June The Girl, whose real name is Marine Bollengier is a 23-year-old French singer. She received media attention after releasing her first single, I Say Love, in 2016. She began playing the guitar at fourteen and decided to enter the world of music when she was 18 when she returned from French Guiana for her studies. June moves very often to her mother's work and feeds on her travels to create her lyrics and music. June is a big fan of Taylor Swift and is inspired by her. The singer travels regularly to Granville 4 , in the department of Manche, where her grandparents live. She lived in French Guiana then in Marseille for her studies. Outside of her career, June the girl is a student of communication and journalism. In 2014, she met Antoine Essertier who decided to work on her debut album. She took part in Destination Eurovision, but sadly didn’t qualify. The rejected single “Same” is now representing France at the first edition of the Olympic Song Contest.
Italy
Annalisa is an Italian singer-songwriter. After being part of two bands, Elaphe Guttata and leNoire (Ex Malvasia), she became famous after participating in the tenth edition of the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi in 2010–2011, where she finished in second place. Subsequently Annalisa participated in the Festival of Sanremo 2013 with the song "Scintille" and finished ninth. Annalisa participated in the Festival of Sanremo 2015 with the song Una finestra tra le stelle and finished fourth. In 2016, she returned to the Festival of Sanremo with the single Il Diluvio Universale finishing eleventh, and came back in 2018 with Il mondo prima di te finishing third. She has recorded 4 albums and 16 singles, receiving 3 Platinum disc and 5 Gold discs, and selling over 305,000 copies. She grew up in Carcare and studied music and singing from an early age. From the age of 13, she worked as a bartender and musician. In 2009 she graduated from the University of Turin in Physics. She will wave the Italian tri-color at this year’s contest with “Bye Bye”.
